Inuyasha and The Jewel of Four Souls
-REVISED 5/28/04-

--------------------------------------
REVISIONS:
1) Claws - now there's big, curved, thick, and scary looking instead of looking like cheap "press-on nails"

2) Expression - Inuyasha's trademark snarl/smirk makes an appearance, hopefully making him more recognizable too

3) Stripes - Inu's demon stripes on his cheeks are thicker, and scarier looking now

4) Eyebrows - Inu's brows are thicker

5) Teeth - fangs moved from incisors to canines

6) Background - is lighter now so it shows more

7) Overall - the midtones have been slightly lightened for PC users

8) Title - Title spelling has been changed from "Inuyasha and Shikon No Tahmah" to "Inuyasha and Shikon No Tama"
--------------------------------------

Image based on "Inuyasha, A Feudal Fairytale" by Rumiko Takahashi

Pictured above is Inuyasha at last holding his Holy Grail, the Jewel of Four Souls, as it changes him into a full blooded demon. But the question is, will Inuyasha figure out that turning full demon may not be as great as he thinks it is before it's too late?

-----

I adore the anime/manga series "Inuyasha" and I wanted to try something different, but converting an anime character into a more realistic 3D character isn't easy. For inspiration on his features, I used ideas of what actors would make a good Inuyasha if there were a live action movie of the series as well as taking into account the characteristics that make Inuyasha "Inuyasha" in anime. M3Inuyasha's got a bit of Brandon Lee, River Phoenix, Inuyasha voice actor's Richard Cox, and Yamaguchi Kappei in him.

The image is rendered in Poser 4 for Mac. The jewel, special effects, postwork, and textures are done in Photoshop.

Thanks for all the comments everyone! :D
Based on feedback I’m getting here and at other places, I'm going attempt a revised version of this image and tweak a few things here and there. So if there's anything you would love to see improved upon, just let me know.

Perhaps Inu’s face stripes are a little too refined (sessy-ish) for Inu, and need to be thicker? Same for the eyebrows? The biggest revision will be to the teeth. Honestly, that's the one thing I nitpick the most myself. I wanted to make his demon teeth oversized like they are in anime/manga, but his mouth is so small it's hard to show they’re bigger and longer because his canines get cover by his lips and go back inside his mouth. My quick fix was to move his fangs in closer from his canines to his lateral incisors. I want to try at moving them back to canines and see if I can fix that. I have a few ideas on a work-around.

tin-squid, I'm not sure what could be done to make his face more recognizable as Inuyasha. Any ideas? The dark lighting and the lop-sided snarl he has in the picture kinda obscure his features, so it many not be the best example of what I came up with for his face.

About the nose, I took a bit of an artistic license with his nose. In manga, it's an upturned in extreme. I'm not a fan of upturned noses (it's too post-plastic surgery Michael Jackson for my tastes *shudder*). Besides, I tend to think the upturned nose is more of an anime convention (since most anime characters have them), than an indication of a distinctive facial feature.

For Inu’s face shape, I went with the short heart shape (like it is in manga). I took inspiration from facial feature I think are Inuyasha-ish in actors River Phoenix, Richard Cox, and Kappei Yamguchi. Does that make sense?

Okay, now back to work.... ;)

Maybe a little more eyebrows..... but I don´t see ANY problem with his nose. I agree with you and I think it´s looking really good and also asiatic. I have alot of asiatic friends and none of them have a "princes nose", but more "roundy", if you know what I mean.

His fagns doens´t bother me at all. It´s cool the way it is. But if one day you would do this pic a little bigger, I would love to see how you solve the big problem of his ears ;)
:iconbrancaloba:
Oh, I forgot..... which program do you use to 3D your pics?
:iconladypuck:
That's totally awesome!

Did you know that there was a theatre production of Inuyasha staged in Japan? There's pictures of the actor playing Inu, so I guess that makes him the closest thing to a real-live Inu. I have the link if you'd be interested in seeing any of them out of curiousity or for future reference.

Again, very loverly!

Orgasmically awesome. Purely for the awesome though. Not for any kind of sexuality. Straight as an arrow..yep...ok. Let's just forget the whole orgasm thing and stick with "It's awesome."

I'm probably better than you at everything but art.
