2/7/6 REVISED:
FIXED: New firefly render of skin texture and gold claws (was combined with P4 render of hair and background) FIXED: Kilt obj was edited external of Poser, reshaped, and reimported as in-position obj FIXED: Bracelets, armbands, and anklets converted to props and parented instead of conforming = better fit. FIXED: Hairline postworked to cover ears and add widow's peak ACK! Up to the last minute for the TOTD January Sesshoumaru contest. This is the first render with very few photoshop touchups. This is Sooooooo not finished. It has at least 5 hours of renders and touchups to go. *pout* Anyhoo, here it is. Now about elements in the picture. I cast Sesshoumaru as Anubis. They have many similarities, -- raising the dead being the major one. Sess's Egyptian version of Tensaiga is an Ankh sword. I thought that would be a nice touch. In Egypt, Black was the color of fertile soil, and that is why Anubis is shown as black. In the East, white is the color of death. So I choose to keep Sess in white because that works for him in Egypt too, imho. He kills far more than he saves. The background is the tomb of Horemheb, 19th Dynasty for you Egypt junkies. He was army general who became king after the very short reigns of Tut and Ay. Sess has gold markings. He's wearing lvory, onyx, gold, and carnelian broad collar, armlets, and anklets. Don't look too close at his kilt, or you might see something wrong with it. I gave Sess Anubis ears! They're meant to be decorative. I tucked away his real ones like I do for Inu. Yep. Sess's feet have claws. So that's a total of 20 sharp things you don't want to find yourself on the wrong side of. So one hand delivers death, the other hand holds life. Which one will the lovely stonefaced Sessho choose this time? p.s. I forgot to mention two things. One is it's rare, but sometimes Anubis was shown in human form. You can find examples in a chapel of Ramesses II in Abydos, and in a painting found in the catacombs of Alexandria. You can see him here: [link] Also, There's a statue at the Vactian that shows Anubis with what I think is the moon on his head, and another at a noble's tomb in Alexanderia. This appears to be common during the Greek and Roman times. Check it out: [link] [link] p.s.s. The Fluffy. Sadly, I didn't have the time to include the fluff (it's very resource intensive and sloooow to render). Plus I'm not exactly sure that an Egyptian Sess would wear one anyway because I think it would way too hot to wear one in Egypt. It wouldn't be practical. However, if Sess's fluffy is a tail, I could do that because Anubis wore a decorative bejeweled tail/belt. So I would gave Egyptian Sess a tail but it would be like the Anubis version instead of the fluffy. Make sense? It's kind of hard to see, but the tomb paintings behind Sess have Anubis wearing the tail. It's just to the side of his leg. See it? One the things about Anime/Manga is you need things like marks and crazy costumes so that viewers/readers know one character from another. BUT when working with actors (or realistic virtual characters) you don't have to do that anymore because people will recognize a face. The trick in going real from anime is can you make a face and body people that will recognize as the character that was anime, and can you pose the character with the right body language to be for the character too?

If I can I'll fix his kilt. I didn't spot the problem in time to fix it before rendering. drat.

These are a few of my favorite things....
I love how you went into detail as to why you chose his coloring, and outfit. He is the opitome of the Egyptian god, stern, serious, and slighlty cold. The background is an absolutely amazing touch. The beauty of Horemheb's tomb is a perfect companion for SesshoumaruAnubis. I'm glad to see you entered Urd-Chan's contest. Good Luck!!!
Cheers!
